How to Prepare for a New QuickBooks Set-Up

A QuickBooks set up generally occurs over the course of three sessions, with each session lasting 2-3 hours: the first for establishing the foundation for the new data file; the second for creating individualized forms and processes for posting data; and the third for learning how to reconcile accounts and review financial reports to understand how your new QuickBooks data file is working.

Objectives of a new set-up:

1) Establish a “start date” for your new data file

2) Design your chart of accounts with attention to your business needs

3) Set up one of every type of Item, per the above

4) Customize templates

5) Customize and memorize reports

We achieve these goals through individual consultation. Our success is measured by your confidence in the information flow we design, in the chart of accounts, in items, and in customized reports we establish to track your programs and related financial data.

The cost for your set up depends on the size of your business, number of accounts, number of transations in transition at your start date, and your personal learning curve.

Most new QuickBooks users spend about $1,125 on the initial set-up, training, and design of accounting flow.

Like all of our training sessions, no additional cost will be charged for ongoing support (telephone or email) directly related to the objectives of each appointment for 20 days.

You will need:

1) A bank statement for each bank account as of the “start-date” of your new QuickBooks file

2) Line of Credit and/or Loan Statement, if you have them

3) Statements or reports that show balances for any other Assets, such as equipments, or other loan obligations

4) Copies of any special reports you wish to run from QuickBooks

5) Any bills or other examples of financial data that you feel may pose a challenge to record keeping in QuickBooks

Preparing for these set up appointments in advance will help you define what you need to know about your business to help it succeed.

My goal is to provide you with the people, resources, and information you need to make QuickBooks a simple yet powerful tool to effectively manage the bookkeeping tasks and reporting needs for you and your company.
